Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3. In this article, I’ll be highlighting the differences and similarities between those two flips.
The Flip 4 got a facelift
At the first impression, both look similar but at a closer look we can see a few subtle differences, I can feel the Z Flip 4 being a little heavier than the Z Flip 3, or can’t tell if the actual difference is just 5 grams.
Another difference is the corner radius on the edges in the Z Flip 4 has been decreased resulting in a slightly squared look compared to the more rounded edges in the Z Flip 3. That difference makes the Samsung Z Flip 4 a little uncomfortable in the hand compared to the Z Flip 3 which has a better grip and feels just right.
The size of the frosted glass has changed. On the 4th we can see that extends more towards the hinge edge on both sides, Samsung is trying to make it as seamless as possible considering the breakpoint in the center. In the older generation, this glass is smaller leaving a bigger gap in the center and exposing more of the aluminum frame.
The camera lenses on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 are slightly raised so they will stick out a little more than the Samsung Z Flip3, a trend that I personally don’t like, and because we are looking at the cameras we can notice that the flashlight is slightly smaller on the 4th generation compared to the 3rd generation, but nothing to worry it will output the same amount of lumens
On the inside, the bezels around the display were reduced in the latest generation offering just a tiny bit more display area and because of that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is shorter in size than the Z Flip 3 This means the Z Flip 4 has slimmer bezels and a wider screen.
Everything else seems to be the same, the cover display has the same size and same resolution, and nothing else has changed design-wise.
Same Display
On the flip side, both are sharing the same 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 2640 x 1080 pixel resolution when unfolded but they are different in terms of refresh rate. The 4th generation display has a dynamic refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz to 120Hz while Z Flip 3’s display has a constant 120hz. This improvement will help the battery last longer – when things on the display are more static like reading something the display doesn’t need 120hz since there is not much movement there and it can run fine with 10-15hz but when gaming that refresh rate will ramp up to 120hz for better performance. The cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 offers the same in terms of specifications – front and back, but the main rear sensor is said to be 65 per cent brighter, moving from 1.4µm pixels to 1.8µm pixels. Below are just some photos comparing the quality. Photos are zoomed in 2000 times.
As you can see this is the only difference in the cameras, the Z Flip 4 has a sharper image. The other cameras are similar to each other.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 offers few internal upgrades along with some minor cosmetic changes. If you are wondering whether to upgrade from the Z Flip3 to the Z Flip4, then there are a few reasons that would make this worthwhile, the newer more efficient chipset, battery upgrade, camera improvements and the design refinements. These are the same reasons to opt for the Z Flip 4 over the Z Flip 3 if you’re choosing between them.
