The Motorola Razr Plus 40 Ultra it’s not perfect but it’s getting there.
Maximizing Efficiency: Cover Screen Reduces Screen Time
First things first the cover screen is amazing. It’s big and useful. When I say useful I mean it. I am 80% iPhone user and 20% Galaxy Flip 4 user, so I switch phones once in a while. But this screen really shines being on a flip phone, this has to be a must on all flippable phones. My Z Flip 4 feels 3 years old now compared with this Razr. Anyway back to the Razr, you can access 80% of the apps on the cover screen, which means many tasks can be done without opening the flip phones. I find myself doing most of the things from the cover screen, without having to use the bigger screen. That could be a plus if you are trying to reduce screen time.
Hinge Gets Better Over Time
Now speaking about wear and tear, it feels like the hinge loosened up a little, it used to be stiffer but now it’s just perfect for flipping it with one hand however, I don’t recommend doing that often because you risk a disaster. And if it falls be sure even with the most expensive case all the joy could end suddenly. Another point to consider if this type of phone is for you is looking at your daily activity, if you working in construction, crawling in tight spaces or any place where your pockets would gather dust don’t even think of buying it. Dust and debris can get into the hinge and cause it to fail. The same goes for crawling with it in the pocket it would just put so much stress and pressure on the hinge. In one month of usage, some debris got in the hinge and caused a scratch as you can see. So carefully consider this aspect when thinking of the Razr.
Promising Performance With 1-day battery life
Let’s talk about the performance and battery life. In terms of performance, it’s very similar to my 1-year-old Z Flip 4, which both share the same specifications. That means 85% percent of the time will feel snappy but here and there will feel laggy, and this is what I mean, the Moto app has this animation going on and it’s just not able to render it smoothly. Same feeling I am getting on some webpages. But if you are coming from the Apple ecosystem these things will probably bother you and you will notice them.
The Razr Plus has a 3,800-mAh battery just 100mAh more than Z Flip 4. On average it last a full day leaving 30% left at Ibedtime, even with the high refresh rate and adaptive brightness settings turned on. This is similar to Z Flip 4 if you were wondering.
Camera Performance Falls Short of Expectations
Here is something you might want to know. Do not expect the same camera quality as on the Google Pixel 7 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. To put it straight, it feels like the camera is 4 years behind. If you are looking at producing sharp and clear images, run away, it won’t cut it. It’s just okay for a casual user who just takes a photo or two but that’s about it, do not expect exceptional results. Coming from Apple standards, this camera was probably comparable with an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8.
The Razr Plus doesn’t get everything right. It proves that flip phones have more to offer than just portability and it’s a another step in the right direction.
